With the announcement that many residents of Fort Mac will begin returning to their homes on June 1, Trucks For Change is reaching out to the trucking industry to assist in the next stage in the recovery.
To support returning evacuees, Red Cross and other relief agencies will be providing tools and supplies to help affected residents clean their homes which have been heavily affected by smoke and fire. These cleanup kits include mops, brooms, sponges, cleaning liquids, pails, gloves, masks and other essentials required to wash a home from floor to ceiling. Trucks For Change is currently coordinating requests to transport truckload and LTL shipments of cleanup kits from points in Ontario and elsewhere to the Fort Mac/Edmonton area.
If your company has been or is currently engaged in providing services or fundraising in support of Fort McMurray, Trucks For Change would like to hear from you, so that we can understand and communicate the collective heartfelt response from across our industry. You can contact them directly by phone at 905 844 8658, or by email at pete@trucksforchange.org.
Trucks For Change Network and OTA member carriers have been working through trusted relief agencies including Canadian Red Cross (www.redcross.ca) and Global Medic (www.globalmedic.ca) to move initial response materials such as cots, blankets, and water into the Fort McMurray region to assist with the evacuee activities. Much of the carriers’ freight transportation has been donated free of charge or offered at cost to assist response efforts. In addition, many have made financial donations to Canadian Red Cross, amounts which are being matched by the federal government.
