Truckers Roll Over Cancer Again: Carriers Finish on Top of Plaid4Dad Campaign

As it does every year, the trucking industry – and Canadian Trucking Alliance member carriers, in particular – led the national fight against prostate cancer.

For the second consecutive year, CTA member carrier Sutco Transportation Specialists of  Salmo, B.C. was the country’s top workplace fundraiser in Prostate Cancer Canada’s Plaid for Dad campaign – raising $22,152.14 . Also, mirroring its second place finish from 2019,  Tandet of Oakville, Ont. followed with $12,522.00 raised.

Overall, three more trucking companies/CTA members/Trucks for Change carriers rounded out the top 10 of all workplaces in Canada:  Steed Standard Transport (6th place – $4,870.00); Arnold Bros. Transport Ltd. (7th place – $4,565.00); and Kriska Transportation Group (10th – $3,541.00)

Rosenau Transport  (15th), Trimac Transportation (31st), Overland Container Transportation Services (34th) were other trucking companies to make the top 50 workplaces.

“Our major fight against cancer started in 2014 with a pink tractor travelling the highways of Canada and the United States. That tractor helped raise close to $70,000 for cancer research and awareness over four years. Our co-founder Bob Sutherland is a survivor of prostate cancer and naturally our industry demographics can greatly benefit from prostate cancer awareness. With a goal to raise over $100,000 over the next four years, we are well on our way,” said Doug Sutherland, president of repeat fundraising champions, Sutco.

In fact, a trucking industry organization has finished first in the friendly workplace competition every year since Plaid for Dad’s inception – beginning with the Ontario Trucking Association, then CTA, followed by Arnold Bros and back-to-back top titles by Sutco.

Since 2016, CTA trucking companies have raised over $270,000 for the Plaid for Dad campaign – far and above more than any other company or industry.

CTA continues to work with Trucks for Change on a variety of charitable causes.

“The Trucks For Change Network is blessed to have a solid base of community and charity-minded carrier members, who not only step up on a daily basis to assist with charitable freight moves across Canada, but who are also impressive leaders in important charity-based fundraisers, as well,” said Betsy Sharples, Executive Director of Trucks For Change. “It is both encouraging and heart-warming to see such a strong showing of carriers who are part of our T4C family, in the country’s top-ranked Plaid4Dad fundraiser this year.”
