Prime Minister Stephen Harper tipped his hat to Canadian truckers in anticipation for National Trucking Week, which takes place Sept. 7-13.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish to thank our hardworking trucking professionals for their extraordinary efforts to serve Canadian businesses and communities throughout the year,” Harper wrote in an official message to the industry. “Please accept my best wishes for a wonderful week of events and great success in the year ahead.”
Harper noted that Canada’s transportation system must be efficient to remain competitive in the global marketplace and highlighted several government initiates on that front, such as the gateway and trade corridor strategy, the federal long-term infrastructure plan, the Detroit River International Crossing and the joint Canada- U.S. Beyond the Border Action Plan.
As well, to ensure the safety of our transportation system, Harper said Ottawa continues to work with provincial and territorial partners on priorities such as fatigue management and infrastructure issues.
