As a direct result of industry feedback, Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Green Freight Program is making several modifications to Stream 1 that will come into effect April 1st, 2024. NRCan states that the goal of the changes is to streamline the application process and better respond to industry needs.
The Government of Canada previously announced an investment of $199.6M over five years for the new Green Freight Program. The program will help truck fleets reduce fuel consumption and GHG emissions by providing financial assistance towards fleet energy assessments, truck and trailer retrofits, and the purchase of low-carbon vehicles, among other activities.
Some of the modifications to the program include the expansion of vehicle eligibility, expansion of eligible retrofits in the program, and further streamlining the application process to simplify it for fleets and businesses.
