Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) recently announced that the Interim Order in place to modify heavy-duty vehicle greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations for trailers have once again been suspended in Canada for up to an additional year.
It is expected that the Interim Order will be published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on March 16, 2024, and will then be available, along with the explanatory note, on the Canada Gazette website.
It was also noted that the Interim Order does not affect any provisions related to the heavy-duty vehicle and engine standards of the Regulations.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), continues to work with the federal government to ensure an understanding of the realities around decarbonization in the heavy-truck sector, as new draft GHG emissions regulations are expected later this year.
CTA will also be releasing its decarbonization white paper which is being finalized in partnership with the environmental non-for-profit, Pollution Probe, which will help capture these current realities based on feedback from across the country, to be released in the coming months.
