The Government of Canada this fall will deliver Budget 2026, which will update Canadians on the government’s progress on its plan to Build Canada Strong, while aiming to support Canadians and businesses and position the country for long-term prosperity.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) has submitted its pre-budget recommendations as part of the federal government’s ongoing pre-budget consultations, which concluded on September 2, 2026.
As the sector is facing trade-related headwinds as well as structural pressures from within the industry, the CTA’s efforts focused on key issues affecting productivity and competitiveness across the trucking sector.
Among some of the key topic areas outlined in CTA’s submission were:
- Supporting a Strong and Compliant Trucking Industry
- Revising Paid Medical Leave Provisions
- Harmonizing with U.S. Permanent Full Expensing
- Border, IT Infrastructure & Trade Investment
- Developing a National Database for Trucking
- Tariff Support for the Sector
“The government indicated it will be looking at measures that strengthen economic growth, improve affordability and support Canada’s workforce,” said Jonathan Blackham, CTA director of Policy and Public Affairs. “We believe the trucking industry is uniquely positioned to help the Government of Canada deliver on all of these priorities. We look forward to continuing to work with the government to advance policies that strengthen our sector and help keep Canada’s economy moving.”
