Trucking HR Canada (THRC) releases the latest industry Labour Market Information (LMI) snapshot examining trends in employment and unemployment across the entire trucking and logistics sector.
“Our quarterly labour market snapshots provide timely and valuable data and analysis to inform evidence-based decision making,” says Craig Faucette, Chief Program Officer, Trucking HR Canada. “This snapshot highlights trends we are seeing in driving and non-driving roles – providing a broader picture of our workforce challenges.”
Key finding show that:
- The workforce in the trucking and logistics sector has grown from 642,700 in 2012 to 732,800 employees in 2021, exceeding Trucking HR Canada’s 2021 forecasted employment by about 3%.
- The vacancy rate across the truck transportation sector was 8.0% in the third quarter of 2021, the second highest vacancy rate in the Canadian economy
- Over the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, employment in the sector dipped by 4.4% in 2020, shedding almost 32,000 jobs.
