Trucking HR Canada Calling Female Truck Drivers

Trucking HR Canada’s Women with Drive initiative, will host Driver Connect & Share – a networking industry event targeted at truck drivers.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 9:00am to 1:00pm, at the Sandman Signature Hotel Toronto Airport.

Joanne Millen-Mackenzie will open the event, sharing her perspectives, knowledge and learnings from close to 25 years behind the wheel.  As Canada’s first female Highway Star of the Year, and champion of Trucking for a Cure, Millen-Mackenzie is a known mentor and leader for others in the industry.  The event will also include a panel discussion, including driver mentors and mentees sharing their experiences and insights.

“The Driver Connect & Share event is a direct response to feedback we continue to receive that female drivers want something specific to their issues,” says Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada. “The women with drive initiative is delivering on supporting and encouraging female drivers in the workforce.”

The Women with Drive initiative was launched to support the industry in attracting, recruiting, and retaining more women in the trucking workforce. In fact, women make up only 3% of truck drivers in Canada.  The initiative is guided by a national advisory committee with employer representation from across the county. As part of this initiative, Trucking HR Canada has recently released three new resources, including: My Toolbox for Mentoring Women, which helps trucking employers, association groups, female drivers and others learn effective and practical approaches to mentorship. The accompanying Inventory of Resources includes information on organizations, programs and networks dedicated to supporting women, and, Trucking HR Canada’s women in trucking video, which was produced to reach beyond the industry – showcasing a vibrant industry that welcomes women in its’ workforce.
