In response to the latest U.S. tariffs and the challenges facing Canadian businesses, the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is informing industry stakeholders that it will maintain and expand its support programs across the forestry sector.
The BDC’s new support program will include the following measures:
- Lowering the minimum revenue threshold to $1M for direct tariff-related support programs such as the Forestry Support Program.
- Expanding the Pivot to Grow solution to offer financing from $250,000 to $5M, interest free for the first 12 months, interest-only payments for 36 months and amortization over 96 months.
- Providing exporting clients affected by the latest U.S. tariffs a six-month payment deferral.
This June, the BDC also introduced its Forestry Support Program to support the entire supply chain. The program includes:
- Loans from $250,000 to $25M depending on the sub-sector with an interest-only payment period and preferential rates.
- Softwood Lumber Guarantee Program to improve access and strengthen the liquidity of sawmills and remanufacturing plants.
- Offering financing and advisory services to help businesses modernize operations, improve productivity, and diversify markets.
