FP Innovations in the Game for ELD Third Party Certification

In a blog post on FP Innovations’ website, the group has identified themselves as being in the final stages of accreditation to certify Electronic Logging Devices for the Canadian ELD mandate, with the intent to have their certification program up and running this fall.

FP highlights the following on their blog:

“FPInnovations is in the final stages of the accreditation process to become a Certification Body of Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) in Canada. According to Transport Canada’s recently amended Commercial Vehicle Hours of Service Regulation, ELDs for use in Canada must be verified and certified by an accredited third-party Certification Body as compliant with the Technical Standard for Electronic Logging Devices. To qualify as an accredited Certification Body, FPInnovations has demonstrated compliance with the International Organization for Standardization standard ISO/ICE 17065, its expertise in testing ELDs and the validity of the results of that methodology. FPInnovations is expected to receive accreditation from Transport Canada to launch its ELD certification program this fall.”

FP also provides critical information and steps to be taken by ELD providers in getting ready for the certification process with FP Innovations and encourages carriers to ask questions of their ELD vendors and their intent to have product offerings certified for use in Canada. In earlier communications, CTA also encouraged carriers to have those discussions with their ELD providers and that no one needs to wait until the last minute to address their ELD requirements.

“The mandatory introduction of third party ELDs in June of 2021 will mark the beginning of a new era in safety and compliance in our industry,” said CTA president Stephen Laskowski. “FP Innovations is very familiar with the trucking industry and very well positioned to serve as the third party certifying body of ELD technology. CTA and its provincial association partners will continue to work with all levels of government to ensure the ELD regulation is ready to be enforced next June across Canada.”
