Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, recently announced the first-ever launch of category-based selection for Canada’s flagship economic immigration management system, Express Entry.
As part of the consultations leading up to this announcement, CTA requested, on behalf of the industry, that truck drivers be included in the new category-based selection process. Following those consultations, trucking was confirmed as one of a select few occupations to be included. In practice, category-based selection will allow Canada to issue invitations to prospective permanent residents with specific skills, training or language ability, with transport truck drivers (NOC73300) being officially included as eligible.
As a follow up to this announcement, IRCC will now be offering new virtual learning sessions for employers who wish to learn how category-based selection works in Express Entry, including eligibility criteria and occupations for 2023 categories, which includes trucking drivers.
CTA and provincial association members are invited to participate in these virtual learning sessions, aimed at employers who are unfamiliar with the program, to provide detail of the new changes. If you are interested, please register on IRCC’s website for one of the four sessions below.
