The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) continues to monitor the evolving situation regarding the strike vote by some Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) employees.
Although the electronic voting period was originally set to end last week, the process has been extended until May 23 by the union representing CBSA employees.
Once the voting process has been completed, any potential actions, such as the ability to strike by some CBSA staff, cannot be taken until a report from the Public Interest Commission (PIC) is issued, which may take several weeks.
As indicated previously, a strike vote is only a component of the collective bargaining process and will not lead to an immediate impact on border operations.
CBSA management has stated to CTA that traffic flows will continue to be monitored closely, and that 90 percent of frontline Border Services Officers (BSO) remain essential workers, who must continue to offer their services if job action/work disruption occurs.
CTA will continue to update members on any developments as they become available.
