Tesla founder Elon Musk recently shared a sneak peek – and really, just a glimpse – of his company’s promised fully electric class 8 tractor at a TED talk in Vancouver.
The truck, which is expected to launch in September, is considered a fully electric over-the-road tractor. As Fleet Owner reported, there have been several advances in electric technologies in recent years, but they have generally has been aimed for smaller trucks travelling in shorter ranges.
Musk did not shed too many details on the truck, but did boldly predict it would “out-torque any diesel semi” while be driven around “like a sports car.”
Musk also said Tesla is on track for completing a fully autonomous car trip from Los Angeles to New York before the end of 2017.
