{"id":9609,"date":"2026-08-10T20:33:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T20:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/?p=9609"},"modified":"2026-08-10T20:33:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T20:33:03","slug":"federal-government-steel-program-leaves-trucking-industry-in-the-lurch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/federal-government-steel-program-leaves-trucking-industry-in-the-lurch\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Government Steel Program \u00a0Leaves Trucking Industry In the Lurch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Canadian Trucking Alliance is\u00a0very disappointed\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/transport-canada\/news\/2026\/08\/government-of-canada-strengthens-canadas-steel-industry-through-stronger-interprovincial-trade.html\">today\u2019s announcement<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0provide subsidies to the steel industry for utilizing marine and rail shippers for domestic shipments,\u00a0but not for the trucking industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s an&nbsp;extremely disappointing&nbsp;decision to exclude the trucking industry from this program,\u201d said CTA&nbsp;president and CEO Stephen Laskowski.&nbsp;\u201cCTA reached out to the Government of Canada multiple times&nbsp;earlier this year&nbsp;to understand the direction of this program. We were told at the time little was known and that more details would be provided.&nbsp;We&nbsp;made&nbsp;it&nbsp;clear that excluding&nbsp;the trucking industry would harm our members\u2019&nbsp;businesses.&nbsp;Unfortunately, we heard nothing&nbsp;about this program&nbsp;until today\u2019s announcement;&nbsp;I guess that\u2019s&nbsp;the extent of&nbsp;our consultation.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How this will impact the domestic&nbsp;supply chain and its competitiveness will be determined based on lanes, service and price sensitivities, but&nbsp;the&nbsp;bulk of steel haulers in trucking are family-run businesses that&nbsp;are now at risk&nbsp;of significant&nbsp;loss&nbsp;because of this&nbsp;discriminatory government policy,\u201d says Laskowski.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Government of Canada needs to revisit&nbsp;today\u2019s announcement.
