{"id":9586,"date":"2026-07-31T16:55:35","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T16:55:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/?p=9586"},"modified":"2026-07-31T16:56:05","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T16:56:05","slug":"updates-from-the-canadian-council-of-motor-transport-administrators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/updates-from-the-canadian-council-of-motor-transport-administrators\/","title":{"rendered":"Updates from the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccmta.ca\/en\/blog\/news\/update-on-work-in-support-of-interprovincial-trucking\">update from CCMTA<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccmta.ca\/en\/blog\/news\/update-on-work-in-support-of-interprovincial-trucking\">\u00a0<\/a>highlighted progress that has been made in their work to support inter-provincial trucking\u00a0and addressing misclassification in the trucking industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) applauds&nbsp;the Canada Revenue Agency(CRA) and Employment and Social Development Canada(EDSC) for their&nbsp;engagement&nbsp;with CCMTA as they look define each of their respective roles and how they can support cross agency data sharing to&nbsp;continue&nbsp; to&nbsp;combat the misclassification of commercial drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;CCMTA&nbsp;update&nbsp;also touched on their progress towards updating the National Safety Code (NSC) standards 7(carrier profiles),&nbsp;14&nbsp;(safety ratings),&nbsp;&nbsp;and 15&nbsp;(facility audits).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NSC 7 Improvements:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improving compliance and monitoring data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Modernizing definitions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strengthening carrier information requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improving visibility of carrier status and safety rating history; and \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enhanced detection of chameleon\/problematic carriers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Proposed amendments to NSC 14:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Developing a draft set of proposed requirements for applying for a carrier identification number that aims to provide guidance to jurisdictions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Development of a modernized application framework<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expanding declarations and disclosure requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Integration with NSC 7; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supporting identification of high-risk \/ problematic carriers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Full re-write of NSC 15 to cover:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Audit lifecycle \u2014 from initiation to completion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scope and methodology; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scoring, reporting, and outcomes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CCMTA are actively working towards the expansion of the Carrier Data Exchange (CDE) to enhance data sharing across jurisdictions to support enforcement efforts and address the chameleon carrier crisis.&nbsp; This will form the baseline foundational pieces to the national truck safety database efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CTA&nbsp;is&nbsp;encouraged by these updates from CCMTA&nbsp;and&nbsp;&nbsp;the work falls in line with what the CTA have been advocating for and recommendations put forward to the various CCMTA committees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CTA looks&nbsp;forward to seeing&nbsp;the results of the work&nbsp;from CCMTA&nbsp;due this fall that will outline the go forward plan for all governments to address driver mis-classification which will include&nbsp;further cross-agency collaboration from CRA and ESDC&nbsp;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent\u00a0update from CCMTA\u00a0highlighted progress that has been made in their work to support inter-provincial trucking\u00a0and addressing misclassification in the trucking industry.
