{"id":9407,"date":"2026-04-11T01:46:55","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T01:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/?p=9407"},"modified":"2026-04-11T02:05:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T02:05:29","slug":"canadas-labour-ministers-agree-to-deal-with-driver-inc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/canadas-labour-ministers-agree-to-deal-with-driver-inc\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada\u2019s Labour Ministers Agree to Deal with Driver Inc."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Government of Canada continues to act on promises made in Budget 2025 to tackle the Driver Inc. misclassification scheme in trucking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Federal, provincial and territorial ministers&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/news\/2026\/04\/federal-provincial-and-territorial-ministers-responsible-for-labour-meet-to-discuss-shared-priorities-for-workplaces-across-canada.html\">responsible for labour announced<\/a>&nbsp;they have tasked officials to form a national, multi-level government working group to jointly develop a plan on addressing misclassification in the trucking industry, and to report back on progress in the fall of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe applaud the Government of Canada and the provinces for continuing to show their commitment to end the misclassification crisis in the trucking industry known as Driver Inc,\u201d said&nbsp;CTA president and CEO Stephen Laskowski. \u201cCTA and the provincial associations will be working with all ministers to ensure the plan reflects the scope of the problem. No stone should be left unturned as this scam has deep and widespread roots.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CTA will continue to reiterate its message that provincial and federal agencies need to work together on misclassification enforcement, including workers\u2019 compensation boards, revenue departments, and ministries of transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe only way misclassification will stop is if enforcement is vast, continuous, aggressive and consequential. The penalties must not be the cost of doing business,\u201d said Laskowski. \u201cYears of provincial and federal misclassification enforcement blitzes like those conducted by ESDC, WSIB in Ontario and other roadside initiatives throughout Canada have been an eye opener. They have revealed just how massive this problem is in Canada&rsquo;s trucking industry. The ministers must adapt a comprehensive and meaningful enforcement program that coordinates intelligence among federal and provincial agencies, bringing with it enforcement\u00a0abilities with real teeth and significant\u00a0penalties.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CTA has launched a program that engages the public and encourages MPs&nbsp;to take the action required to deal with the Driver Inc crisis.
