He acknowledged that unfair competition can dramatically impact shipper decisions on which trucking companies to use.

“The committee’s recognition that unfair competition has pervaded the trucking industry is important for our members to hear. While the U.S. tariffs are significantly impacting our members bottom-line, it is the gross abuse of the tax code and the rampant growth of unfair competition that has led family businesses to make the difficult decision to shut their doors,” said Laskowski. “The lifting of the T4A moratorium and the implementation of a significant and well-funded PSB enforcement program will go a long way towards addressing this crisis facing these businesses.”

CTA would like to thank all members of the TRAN Committee for their engagement on this issue, particularly committee Chair Peter Schiefke (Liberal) and Vice-Chairs Dan Albas (Conservative), and Xavier Barsalou-Duval (Bloc) for their cooperation and support throughout this process.

“The Committee’s investigation and commitment to addressing Driver Inc. have been critical in arriving at this moment. The Bloc Québécois, the Conservative Party of Canada, and the Liberal Party of Canada working together to tackle this problem is how democracy should work. It should unquestionably benefit responsible, compliant trucking companies across Canada,” said Laskowski. “Our industry also strongly encourages the Committees’ work to develop and include other recommendations around truck safety, truck training, insurance and forced labour matters that also are involved in the broader Driver Inc. scam.”

<p
