The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) has prepared a document to assist members of parliament to better understand the trucking industry\u2019s views on critical issues facing our sector and Canada\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CTA sent the document \u2013 a Platform to Restore Productivity, Competitiveness and Tax Fairness to Trucking<\/a> \u2013 today to the leaders of Canada\u2019s main political parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAs Canada heads towards a monumental federal election amid ongoing tariff threats from the U.S., it is critical the trucking industry\u2019s voice is heard in Ottawa,\u201d says CTA president Stephen Laskowski. \u201cGovernment measures designed to improve the productivity, efficiency and safety of the trucking industry impact millions of Canadians who we share the roadways with and who rely on the countless sectors of the economy we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The document outlets many recommendations for improving productivity and competitiveness in the industry and throughout the supply chain. Topics include: eliminating needless taxes \u2013 including ensuring the carbon tax is scrapped for good; securing the border in the face of US tariffs; bringing order to the immigration system; introducing more practical and achievable GHG regs; eliminating internal trade barriers; and, most importantly, tackling the underground economy sprouting throughout the trucking industry, which is threatening the existence of countless responsible and compliant businesses while funnelling away over $1 billion in taxes that should be going towards Canada\u2019s social infrastructure and critical programs for Canadians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAs a society, we face a tariff threat that could fundamentally change how we develop and maintain the standard of living we have come to expect, while concurrently grappling with an underground economy undermining every aspect of the North American supply chain and putting Canadians at risk,\u201d said Laskowski. \u201cRegardless of who wins the next election, our industry wants reassurance the Government of Canada will be in our corner and understands the issues and challenges that matter to the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who work in our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n CTA is encouraging all carriers in Canada who care about restoring productivity and fairness to trucking, to send the documents linked below in EN and FR to their MPs and other party candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
