Environment Canada issued a notice stating that the\u00a0Interim Order Modifying the Operation of Certain Regulations Made Under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999\u00a0[the Interim Order]\u00a0was made by the Minister on January 31, 2025, and approved by the Governor in Council. It is expected that the Interim Order will be published in the\u00a0Canada Gazette, Part I, on February 22, 2025, and will then be available, along with the explanatory note, on the\u00a0Canada Gazette\u00a0website at:\u00a0http:\/\/www.gazette.gc.ca\/accueil-home-eng.html<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Interim Order temporarily suspends the application of the trailer provisions in the Heavy-duty Vehicle and Engine Greenhouse Gas Emission Regulations, updates the light-duty plug-in hybrid electric vehicle calculation reference in the Passenger Automobile and Light Truck Greenhouse Gas Emission Regulations, and revises the \u201cmedium-duty passenger vehicle\u201d definition in the On-Road Vehicle and Engine Emission Regulations. The Interim Order, made pursuant to subsection 163(1) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA), is in effect for a period of up to one year from the date the Interim Order was made by the Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Interim Order was made before the Interim Order Modifying the Operation of the Heavy-duty Vehicle and Engine Greenhouse Gas Emission Regulations (Trailer Standards) expires on February 19, 2025, so that the trailer standards do not come into effect until they are repealed to ensure continued alignment with the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note that the Interim Order does not affect any provisions related to the light-duty vehicle and heavy-duty vehicle and engine standards of the three regulations subject to the Interim Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
