{"id":3589,"date":"2023-09-22T13:39:26","date_gmt":"2023-09-22T13:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/trucking-coalition-balks-at-efforts-to-apply-california-emissions-rules-across-u-s\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:41:58","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:41:58","slug":"trucking-coalition-balks-at-efforts-to-apply-california-emissions-rules-across-u-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/trucking-coalition-balks-at-efforts-to-apply-california-emissions-rules-across-u-s\/","title":{"rendered":"Trucking Coalition Balks at Efforts to Apply California Emissions Rules Across U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The Clean Freight Coalition \u2014 representing some of the largest trucking associations in the U.S. \u2014 is opposing efforts by more than 80 Congressional Democrats to expand California emissions standards across the nation, reports Truck News.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Such standards, agreed to by truck and engine manufacturers under the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trucknews.com\/equipment\/carb-inks-flexible-deal-on-clean-air-rules-with-truck-engine-makers\/1003176542\/\">Clean Truck Partnership<\/a>, would upend the supply chain and ignore immediate, scalable solutions that reduce carbon emissions, Clean Freight Coalition executive director Jim Mullen said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIt is disappointing that certain members of Congress are pushing a one-size-fits-all environmental agenda that fails to understand the mass diversification of the commercial vehicle industry. Setting regulatory requirements relying on technologies that are either in early demonstration phases or not fully developed, and yet to be tested and validated in the various unique real-world applications will disrupt the nation\u2019s freight network.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The statement came after a Sept. 5 Democrat-led congressional letter asking the EPA to finalize the \u201cstrongest feasible<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trucknews.com\/sustainability\/third-round-of-ghg-emission-rules-unveiled-by-u-s-epa\/1003174214\/\">Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles \u2013 Phase 3<\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>rules\u201d before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage EPA to finalize standards that go beyond the current proposal and fully incorporate the potential for national emissions reductions highlighted by the technologies and strategies agreed to in the Clean Truck Partnership between CARB and the engine and truck manufacturers,\u201d the legislators\u2019 letter said. It also cited commitments by fleets such as Amazon, FedEx and Walmart to further reduce emissions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cCongress and regulators should pursue policies that will provide immediate emission reductions, allowing zero-emission technologies to mature and the supporting infrastructure to be built out,\u201d Mullen said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cAs examples, repealing the federal excise tax would incentivize truckers to refresh their fleets with modern greener and safer technologies, and policymakers should promote and incentivize readily available low-carbon fuel options, such as biodiesel and renewable diesel.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Clean Freight Coalition members include the American Trucking Associations;
