{"id":3509,"date":"2023-03-03T16:11:15","date_gmt":"2023-03-03T16:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/nacfe-trucking-approaching-messy-middle-of-decarbonization\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:42:19","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:42:19","slug":"nacfe-trucking-approaching-messy-middle-of-decarbonization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/nacfe-trucking-approaching-messy-middle-of-decarbonization\/","title":{"rendered":"NACFE: Trucking Approaching \u2018Messy Middle\u2019 of Decarbonization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now is the time for fleets to act and begin to wade into the \u201cmessy middle\u201d of decarbonizing heavy-duty trucking in order to get to a zero-emissions future, the North American Council for Freight Efficiency concluded in its latest report.<\/p>\n<p>NACFE, reports Truckinginfo.com, does not view the messy middle as bad, but rather sees it as a time where fleets will want to take action and will have to evaluate many options.<\/p>\n<p>During the messy middle, fleets will be faced with a number of powertrain options including advanced diesel, renewable fuels, natural gas, hydrogen, hybrids, battery electric power and hydrogen fuel cells with no one right solution for all of the duty cycles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nacfe.org\/research\/thought-leadership\/the-messy-middle\/?mc_cid=c45d957c0d&amp;mc_eid=a68c86b1f5\">The Messy Middle: A Time For Action<\/a>\u201d report found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All stakeholders should support fleets in making the right adoption decisions. This includes OEMs, suppliers, utilities, charger manufacturers and regulators.<\/li>\n<li>Decisions should include a realistic understanding of your pipeline capabilities. Each stakeholder needs to realistically evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and not over promise solutions.<\/li>\n<li>An even higher level of collaboration is essential. Fleets cannot traverse the messy middle on their own. They need to engage with utilities, governmental agencies, charging equipment manufacturers, OEMs, and others to leverage all the available knowledge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cDuring the messy middle, fleets will need to be open to changing operations to optimize for the new technologies,\u201d said Rick Mihelic, NACFE\u2019s director of emerging technologies. \u201cThey will have to look at things like adding stops for charging of battery electric vehicles in regional and long-haul operations and improving intermodal rail use.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now
