The international and domestic economy relies on trucking \u2013 and truck drivers \u2013 to keep supply chains secure and moving.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To maintain the stability of the supply chain, the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) and the Government have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/transport-canada\/news\/2022\/01\/declaration-commune-des-ministresalghabra-oregan-et-qualtrough-et-du-president-de-lalliance-canadienne-du-camionnage.html\">jointly communicating<\/a>\u00a0the importance of addressing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/new-thrc-data-supports-ctas-warning-over-labour-shortage-and-supply-chain-fragility\/\">truck driver shortage<\/a>\u00a0in Canada, which worsened throughout the pandemic\u00a0and was exacerbated by the expansion of the\u00a0Driver Inc scheme.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7014\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7014\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7014 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/IMG_3224-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7014\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CTA&rsquo;s Geoff Wood and Jonathan Blackham with the Honourable Sean Fraser after today&rsquo;s announcement<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recent release of the\u00a0Supply Chain Task Force\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/cta-calls-on-feds-to-action-task-force-recommendations-and-prioritize-supply-chain-stability\/\">recommendations<\/a>, and the recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/cta-feds-target-driver-inc-in-fall-economic-statement\/\">fall economic statement<\/a>\u00a0contain significant commitments to work with the trucking sector in relieving supply\u00a0chain constraints.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today\u2019s announcement by\u00a0Sean\u00a0Fraser, Minister\u00a0of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, confirming IRCCs\u00a0implementation of the new\u00a0National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 for immigration programs and trucking\u2019s entrance in Express Entry programs,\u00a0builds on this momentum\u00a0by\u00a0allowing the trucking industry\u00a0much better access to drivers who want to work in our industry and settle in Canada permanently.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEvery sector of the Canadian economy relies on the trucking industry,\u201d said CTA president Stephen Laskowski. \u201cToday\u2019s announcement by Minister Fraser will help secure supply chains \u2013 from agriculture to manufacturing \u2013 by providing trucking companies access to an international workforce that was not previously available to our sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CTA looks forward to working with Minister Fraser to ensure that our sector has the access it needs to effectively tap into the international labour pool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is equally important\u00a0that, together, we ensure this new workforce arriving in Canada is employed by companies that will properly explain to them \u2013 and protect \u2013 their labour rights; ensure they operate safe, compliant, vehicles; and create an opportunity where their families can thrive and enjoy the benefits of working and living in our great nation,\u201d\u00a0said Laskowski.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly everything in our homes and workplaces has been on a truck at least once.
