{"id":3430,"date":"2022-09-22T15:49:40","date_gmt":"2022-09-22T15:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/trucking-companies-build-homes-and-hope\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:43:01","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:43:01","slug":"trucking-companies-build-homes-and-hope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/trucking-companies-build-homes-and-hope\/","title":{"rendered":"Trucking Companies Build Homes and Hope\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trucking companies and suppliers came together last week to help build hope for families by donating time, skills, talents, and dollars to help construct homes for <em>Habitat for Humanity \u2013 Waterloo Region<\/em>\u00a0(ON).<\/p>\n<p>Build contributions took place over the course of four days and included 50 employee volunteers from seven companies, who helped with assigned tasks such as framing, ceilings, and decks, to name a few. This is the fifth year that\u00a0<em>Trucks for Change<\/em>(T4C) corporate teams have come together to assist with building 45 townhome units at Habitat\u2019s Kehl Street location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always look forward to the Trucks for Change build days\u201d, says Maynard Moore, one of the build supervisors with the Waterloo region Habitat for Humanity. \u201cI don\u2019t know why, but we seem to accomplish more than usual with trucking teams\u201d, and further speculated that volunteers from the industry seem to have \u201cbrains that are geared for efficiency\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s contribution adds another 400 hours to T4C\u2019s 1,500+ volunteer hours to the Kehl Street build, along with another $10,000 in financial contributions to fund Habitat for Humanity\u2019s build programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrucks For Change truly appreciates both the financial and volunteer commitments of this year\u2019s participating companies, who not only allowed, but encouraged staff members to take a break from normal work routines to pick up a hammer or a drill in order to help families build stable futures\u201d, says T4C executive director, Betsy Sharples.<\/p>\n<p>Over the four days, teams of employees from\u00a0<em>Kriska Transportation Group<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Bison Transport<\/em>,\u00a0 <em>Erb<\/em>\u00a0<em>Transport<\/em>,\u00a0 <em>Challenger<\/em>\u00a0<em>Motor<\/em>\u00a0<em>Freight<\/em>, <em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Tandet<\/em>\u00a0<em>Group<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Navistar<\/em>\u00a0<em>Canada<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Bridgestone<\/em>\u00a0<em>Canada<\/em>\u00a0learned new skills while building hope for local Habitat families.<\/p>\n<p>Habitat For Humanity\u2019s home-building program helps lower-income, working families by providing the opportunity to purchase their own Habitat homes to help build strength, stability, and self-reliance.
