Produced quarterly, this snapshot provides timely and relevant information to the trucking and logistics sector allowing for informed workforce planning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrends identified through Trucking HR Canada\u2019s labour market research provide unique insights for our sector to use when workforce planning\u201d, says Craig Faucette, Chief Program Officer, Trucking HR Canada. \u201cThe highlighted ongoing challenges showcase the necessity to address underlying issues leading to our sector\u2019s labour shortages, which are significantly impacting Canada\u2019s economic recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEY FINDINGS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The largest decrease in truck driver employment was experienced in the wholesale and retail trade sectors &#8211; down by 15% and 23% respectively from Q4 2021, which further\u00a0supports the seasonal explanation. Employment among drivers working in the manufacturing sector also decreased by 13%.<\/li>\n<li>While total driver employment in the first quarter of 2022 was 290,900, down 8% from the last quarter of 2021, it is likely that\u00a0this decrease in employment is mostly seasonal.<\/li>\n<li>The total number of vacant driver\u00a0jobs in the last quarter of 2021 was 22,155. While driver vacancies\u00a0have decreased slightly &#8211; down 835 positions from Q3 2021 &#8211; the total number remains at record high levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To
