{"id":3310,"date":"2022-02-11T17:15:20","date_gmt":"2022-02-11T17:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/suppliers-detail-supply-chain-challenges\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:43:31","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:43:31","slug":"suppliers-detail-supply-chain-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/suppliers-detail-supply-chain-challenges\/","title":{"rendered":"Suppliers Detail Supply Chain Challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Commercial vehicle suppliers say they are experiencing major challenges due to pandemic-related supply chain and related concerns.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Tom Linebarger, chairman and CEO of engine maker Cummins Inc., noted the coronavirus variant omicron has driven up its own absenteeism as well as that of its suppliers, reports Transport Topics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cBut if I step back though, chip supply is still a disaster,\u201d he said. \u201cI mean, it just moves around. Lately, the biggest thing I am hearing about is anti-lock brakes, which, as you know, don\u2019t affect us. But essentially every one of our customers and car companies are all suffering from anti-lock brake chip shortages.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Carl Anderson, chief financial officer at Meritor Inc., said, \u201cIn total, higher steel and freight costs were around an $84 million headwind in 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Ocean container cost nearly quadrupled, hot roll steel increased over 250% and scrap cost doubled, he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if we\u2019ll climb all the way back,\u201d Anderson added, \u201cbut I would say we should definitely see a $50 million-plus improvement in working capital and on a year-over-year basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Eaton Corp. Chairman and CEO Craig Arnold said inflation can\u2019t be ignored and is likely to persist in 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cEssentially, improved copper [higher conductivity and ductility] is up, resin costs are still high,\u201d Arnold said. \u201cThe cost of semiconductors, if you can get them, is up dramatically.
