{"id":3292,"date":"2022-01-14T17:14:25","date_gmt":"2022-01-14T17:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/covid-to-keep-freight-markets-tighter-for-longer\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:43:39","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:43:39","slug":"covid-to-keep-freight-markets-tighter-for-longer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/covid-to-keep-freight-markets-tighter-for-longer\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID to Keep Freight Markets \u2018Tighter for Longer\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>With increased employee absenteeism due to the Omicron variant will come tighter freiht markets and capacity, ACT Research reported in its latest freight forecast.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThe freight environment continues to feature strong demand and tight capacity conditions, with a choppy and gradual recovery,\u201d said Tim Denoyer, ACT\u2019s vice-president and senior analyst.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\">\u201cOmicron is leading to an increase in absenteeism, impacting both transportation and manufacturing in early 2022 and will keep freight markets tighter for longer. Though fleets in our survey are saying absenteeism is a problem for most and some fleets reported a hit to recruiting, other fleets are still seeing growth in recruiting classes.\u201dACT expects Omicron to be short-lived, after which the recovery in driver capacity will re-engage \u201cfairly soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProgress de-bottlenecking automotive supply chains will likely be set back temporarily by Omicron, so the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>everything<\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><em>shortage<\/em><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>will be with us for some time,\u201d Denoyer added. \u201cWith labor constraints recovering more slowly than normal, bank account balances high and inventories low, the setup for 2022 remains tight in the near-term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He concluded, \u201cThe silver lining of Omicron is that it may broadly reduce pandemic risks, which would help services recover.
