Women made up 7.8 percent of the U.S. truck driving pool \u2013 the highest recorded, according to the American Trucking Associations\u2019 (ATA) annual<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>American Trucking Trends<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>report.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

About 7.65 million Americans were employed in the trucking industry, almost half of which are truck drivers. Nearly 92 percent of all fleets operated six or fewer trucks and 97.4 percent have fewer than 20 trucks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe knew that the pandemic had a significant impact on our industry, but this year\u2019s Trends shows that despite those challenges, the trucking industry remained our nation\u2019s lifeline \u2013 delivering the life-saving and life-sustaining essentials our country needed in a time of great need,\u201d said ATA chief economist Bob Costello.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The report states the U.S. industry moved 10.23 billion tons of freight last year, down from 11.84 billion the previous year. The industry generated $732.3 billion in revenue and carried 70.9% of the value of surface trade between Canada and the U.S.<\/p>\n
