{"id":3084,"date":"2021-03-19T16:24:58","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T16:24:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/canadian-eld-third-party-system-enforcement-policy-development-in-full-gear\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:44:23","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:44:23","slug":"canadian-eld-third-party-system-enforcement-policy-development-in-full-gear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/canadian-eld-third-party-system-enforcement-policy-development-in-full-gear\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian ELD Third Party System &#038; Enforcement Policy Development in Full Gear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dawn of a new hours-of-service\u00a0compliance\u00a0regime\u00a0is set to begin in Canada for federally regulated trucking companies this June.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators\u00a0(CCMTA)\u00a0has established a committee to develop a progressive enforcement\u00a0strategy\u00a0to deal with the implementation of the federal mandate and the coming\u00a0of age\u00a0of certified ELD devices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn February, CTA submitted a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/cta-federal-minister-reconfirms-date-and-need-for-progressive-eld-enforcement-strategy\/\">12-month progressive enforcement\u00a0strategy<\/a>\u00a0to CCMTA that would allow the enforcement community to deal with carriers operating paper logs; ELDs, separately, certified and non-certified,\u00a0as the mandate takes shape starting in June,\u201d said CTA president Stephen Laskowski. \u201cCTA looks forward to when industry\u00a0and government can exchange dialogue in the near future on the final\u00a0elements\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a012-month progressive enforcement strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As these industry-government discussions are set to take place, the third-party system\u00a0to\u00a0certify ELD devices\u00a0for the Canadian market\u00a0is\u00a0entering\u00a0high gear with over a dozen vendors\u00a0engaged in\u00a0various stages of the certification\u00a0process. Some vendors in the\u00a0process\u00a0have even submitted\u00a0multiple devices\u00a0for certification, guaranteeing carriers\u00a0operating in Canada\u00a0have\u00a0a plethora of certified devices to\u00a0select\u00a0from\u00a0as the mandate approaches.<\/p>\n<p>A number of ELD vendors have issued public statements\u00a0describing their organization\u2019s readiness for the June mandate. There are now many more vendors\u00a0engaged in\u00a0the\u00a0certification\u00a0process. CTA strongly encourages federally regulated carriers currently not operating ELDs to begin meeting with ELD vendors to complete their due diligence on various operating systems.
