Zonar has announced it is \u201cready and will be certified\u201d for the effective ELD enforcement date in Canada of June 12,\u00a02021.<\/p>\n
\u201cZonar has worked with Transport Canada, the Canadian Trucking Alliance and CCMTA on certification since the inception of Canada\u2019s ELD mandate,\u00a0by\u00a0providing input on ELD Standards throughout the process. As such, we feel that we\u2019re best equipped to set our customers up for a successful transition and ensure compliance,\u201d the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n
One of the key differences\u00a0between the Canadian ELD and U.S. ELD requirements is the requirement of\u00a0third-party certification.<\/p>\n
Zonar says it has taken the extra step of having its U.S. offering\u00a0third-party certified as well to give customers and prospects \u201cadded confidence that we will be ready for evaluation by a certification body has been approved by Transport Canada and compliant by the effective date of June 12,\u00a02021.\u201d<\/p>\n
Currently there is only one approved certification body and the cost for certification is very high with an annual certification cost as well.<\/p>\n
Fred\u00a0Fakkema, vice president, safety & compliance, Zonar, says one remaining concern regarding the Canadian mandate is training of law enforcement on how to conduct and receive ELD logs during a roadside inspection.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we\u2019ve seen with the U.S.\u00a0mandate, this can cause confusion and additional downtime during inspections. We hope to see the further training happen prior to the mandate going\u00a0into effect,\u00a0but in the meantime, Zonar is at the ready to assist our customers and law enforcement officials.\u201d<\/p>\n
