Doug Sutherland, President, Sutco Transportation, becomes the new chair of the BRTF for the 2020-22 term with Heather Day, President, C.S. Day Transport, appointed as the Vice Chair.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5463 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Doug-Sutherland-207x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"119\" height=\"172\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike many sectors of the economy, the trucking industry is facing challenges in replacing an aging workforce. Recruiting and retaining new entrants is a critical issue facing all companies in the trucking industry, from carriers to suppliers,\u201d said BRTF Chair Doug Sutherland. \u201cI look forward to working with Heather and the members of the BRTF to develop innovative solutions to keep our sector strong so that it can continue serving Canadian families and fueling the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doug entered the trucking sector over a decade ago after an early career start in the entertainment industry. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Victoria and is an executive board member of the B.C. Trucking Association and Canadian Trucking Alliance. Sutherland was previously Sutco\u2019s vice-president and general manager for over eight years. Prior to joining Sutco, Sutherland was general manager of Summit Truck and Equipment Repair.\u00a0Summit and Sutco are both part of the Sutherland Group of Companies, which also includes B.C. EcoChips and Landmark Timber Services.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Day is the President of C.S. Day Transport Ltd., a third-generation family business that specializes in the safe transportation of bulk gasoline and diesel products throughout the Canadian prairies.\u00a0Heather is passionate about the trucking industry and is the Executive of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) and board member of the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA). Before transitioning to her current role, Heather earned degrees in music and education and enjoyed a seven-year teaching career in London, England where she led the Music Departments of both inner city and large suburban high schools.\u00a0Upon returning to Canada to become involved in the family business, Heather advanced her education in finance, human resources, business administration, and obtained her commercial 1A driver\u2019s licence.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5464 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Heather-Day-199x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"121\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a great passion for addressing human resource issues in the industry as well as cultivating a culture of outstanding safety performance,\u201d said Day. \u201cI look forward to working with Doug and the BRTF in addressing these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While announcing the arrival of two new officers, the CTA Board recognized the leadership and commitment of <a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/seymour-reflects-on-role-as-chair-of-cta-labour-task-force\/\">previous CTA BRTF Chair, Mark Seymour<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark has been the driving force behind the creation and efforts of the BRTF,\u201d said CTA Chair Jean-Claude Fortin. \u201cOttawa and provincial politicians are all aware of the labour shortage in our industry and political solutions to our labour shortage issues will be resolved in part because of the years of dedicated leadership and advice Mark Seymour has provided the industry as Chair of the BRTF.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) appointed two new officers to lead its Blue-Ribbon Task Force, whose mission is to address labour issues in the trucking industry.
