{"id":2980,"date":"2020-09-04T16:10:45","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T16:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/lets-say-thanks-to-ottawa-for-new-cra-meal-allowance-policy\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:44:39","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:44:39","slug":"lets-say-thanks-to-ottawa-for-new-cra-meal-allowance-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/lets-say-thanks-to-ottawa-for-new-cra-meal-allowance-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Let\u2019s Say Thanks to Ottawa for New CRA Meal Allowance Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, just a few days before National Trucking Week, \u00a0the Government of Canada (Sept. 6-12),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/meal-allowance-change-government-of-canada-invests-and-supports-canadas-commercial-truck-drivers\/\">announced a significant change<\/a>\u00a0to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) meal allowance policy for truck drivers\u00a0\u2013 a policy shift that will put upwards of $1500 tax dollars back\u00a0into the households of long-haul truck drivers dealing with rising roadside food costs as a result of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Trucking Alliance is calling on members and truck drivers who will benefit from this policy to use social media to thank the Government of Canada, specifically CRA and Transport Canada, for addressing this need for our nation\u2019s commercial truck drivers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was an important measure for our essential service commercial drivers and they deserve this attention from the Government of Canada,\u201d said CTA president Stephen Laskowski. \u201cBut let\u2019s not forget there are many pressures on Ottawa from all sectors looking for policies to address issues caused by the pandemic. The Government of Canada stepped up to help our drivers, so let us recognize this support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To assist members the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/home\/ONTRUCK%20Team%20Folder\/EG\/Meal%20Allowance-Social%20Media%20Images\">created social media images<\/a>\u00a0designed to highlight the industry\u2019s appreciation for the change in the meal allowance. CTA is encouraging members and drivers to recognize in their social media posts two key ministers responsible for this policy change: The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue and The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport<em>.\u00a0<\/em>For members those not utilizing social media, the parliamentary e-mail addresses for both Minister Garneau and Lebouthillier can be accessed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourcommons.ca\/Members\/en\/search\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Below are quotes from yesterday\u2019s announcement from both Minister Garneau and Lebouthillier:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpdating our policies is an integral part of our People First philosophy to put Canadians at the centre of everything we do.
