On the heels of the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) recently releasing its\u00a0comprehensive COVID-19 recovery roadmap<\/a>\u00a0for the trucking industry, the Alliance has provided Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) with several environmentally-related program and policy changes that can help stimulate investment in low-carbon technologies and drive continued growth in Canada\u2019s trucking industry as the effects of the pandemic continue to be felt.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs our country begins to recover from unprecedented economic challenges from the pandemic, it is important to remember that climate change continues to be an issue that we must remain focused on,\u201d says CTA\u2019s director of policy and industry awareness programs, Lak Shoan.<\/p>\n

Keys issues that were highlighted in CTA\u2019s submission include: the development of a federal rebate program for fuel saving devices and other technologies; supplementing the current accelerated investment initiative (AII) and applying the policies to trailers; reinstating the federal excise tax refund; developing a national delete kit enforcement strategy; a national speed limiter rule and; working with ECCC to develop a roadmap for decarbonization of the trucking industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cCTA believes this comprehensive list of policy and program changes will not only continue to reduce the carbon footprint from our sector, but also act as an important catalyst to increase cashflow and competitiveness in our industry,\u201d added Shoan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
