{"id":2948,"date":"2020-07-08T20:29:04","date_gmt":"2020-07-08T20:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/cbsa-expands-personal-data-collection-policy-to-12-more-border-points\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:45:03","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:45:03","slug":"cbsa-expands-personal-data-collection-policy-to-12-more-border-points","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/cbsa-expands-personal-data-collection-policy-to-12-more-border-points\/","title":{"rendered":"CBSA Expands Personal Data Collection Policy to 12 More Border Points"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)\u00a0just released an expanded list of Canada-US ports of entry \u2013 18 in total \u2013 which will be<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>collecting contact information for all travellers (symptomatic and asymptomatic), including truck drivers, starting tomorrow, July 9.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Earlier today,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the Canadian Trucking Alliance clarified the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/new-order-in-council-provides-public-health-agency-of-canada-increased-powers-to-ask-for-personal-information-at-the-us-canada-border\/\"><b>increased powers of public health officials<\/b><\/a>\u00a0to collect the personal information of truck drivers at an initial<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/cbsa-provides-extra-info-on-personal-data-collection-expansion-to-other-ports-expected\/\">six Canadian ports of entry<\/a><\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">(POE) when crossing into Canada. Although the policy was expected to take a phased approach and roll out to additional ports in the coming weeks, CTA was advised this afternoon that<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>travellers crossing 12 additional ports of entry will be required to provide their contact information as well, starting July 9.\u00a0<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">On top of the ports which began collecting contact information from truck drivers on June 30 (St Stephen 3rd Bridge; St-Armand\/Philipsburg; Lansdowne; Queenston-Lewiston Bridge; Coutts; Pacific Highway) the following ports will follow suit:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Woodstock Road<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">St Stephen<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Stanstead<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">St-Bernard-de-Lacolle<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Sault Ste. Marie<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Prescott<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Windsor\/Detroit Tunnel<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Peace Bridge<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">North Portal<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Emerson<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Abbotsford-Huntingdon<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">Aldergrove<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Border Services Officers (BSO) are expected to input personal contact information for persons exempt from quarantine, including their email address, principle phone number and secondary phone number (if applicable) into a database that is managed by PHAC.\u00a0Once collected, the information will automatically be entered into the system and not have to be taken when the driver crosses next.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Travellers who refuses to provide their information will be advised by a BSO they could be subject to additional measures, such as a requirement to undergo a health assessment. They could also be charged with an offence under the Quarantine Act. Alternatively, local police in a specific jurisdiction can issue a ticket under the Contraventions Act.\u00a0If the exempt traveller continues to refuse providing their information, they will be referred to a PHAC quarantine officer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u201cLike everything else in this COVID-19 environment, events at the border as well as responses to mitigate the spread of the virus remain very fluid,\u201d said<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lak Shoan, Director of Policy and Industry Awareness Programs for CTA. \u201cCTA will
