{"id":2934,"date":"2020-06-11T20:20:39","date_gmt":"2020-06-11T20:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/ota-summary-of-mtos-spif-program-now-available\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:45:14","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:45:14","slug":"ota-summary-of-mtos-spif-program-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/ota-summary-of-mtos-spif-program-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"OTA Summary of MTO\u2019s SPIF Program Now Available\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MTO\u2019s SPIF program has transformed the heavy-duty vehicle fleet in Ontario over the past 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Different groups of vehicles were addressed in four separate phases of the program with all pre-existing vehicles of each phase that did not meet SPIF standards provided a period of grand-father protection. Grandfather protection has already ended for a number of vehicles and, starting in 2021 through to 2026,\u00a0grand-fathering protection that applied to a number of\u00a0other\u00a0vehicles will begin to sunset, while other vehicles could remain eligible for extended grand-fathering by permit.<\/p>\n<p>Upon the sunset of grand-fathering vehicles not yet designed to SPIF requirements will see a reduction in their gross weight allowances.<\/p>\n<p>To assist the OTA membership in tracking the multifaceted SPIF environment and the upcoming sunset of grand-fathering protections, OTA has prepared separate analysis\u2019s for both tractor semi-trailers and straight-truck (and trailers) under the SPIF program.<\/p>\n<p>The analyses are available to OTA members upon request.
