{"id":2903,"date":"2020-05-14T19:52:51","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T19:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fmcsa-announces-updated-hours-of-service-regulations\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:45:15","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:45:15","slug":"fmcsa-announces-updated-hours-of-service-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/fmcsa-announces-updated-hours-of-service-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"FMCSA Announces Updated Hours of Service Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published a final rule updating its Hours of Service Regulations.<\/p>\n<p>FMCSA\u2019s final rule on hours of service offers four key revisions to the existing HOS rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Agency will increase safety and flexibility for the 30-minute break rule by requiring a break after 8 hours of consecutive driving and allowing the break to be satisfied by a driver using on-duty, not driving status, rather than off-duty status.<\/li>\n<li>The Agency will modify the sleeper-berth exception to allow drivers to split their required 10 hours off duty into two periods: an 8\/2 split, or a 7\/3 split \u2014 with neither period counting against the driver\u2019s 14\u2011hour driving window.<\/li>\n<li>The Agency will modify the adverse driving conditions exception by extending by two hours the maximum window during which driving is permitted.<\/li>\n<li>The Agency will change the short-haul exception available to certain commercial drivers by lengthening the drivers\u2019 maximum on\u2011duty period from 12 to 14 hours and extending the distance limit within which the driver may operate from 100 air miles to 150 air miles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The new hours of service rule will have an implementation date of 120 days after publication in the Federal Register.\u00a0The Federal Register notice is expected in the coming week.\u00a0For full details of the FMCSA announcement, the regulations and background please\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/newsroom\/us-department-transportation-modernizes-hours-service-rules-improve-safety-and-increase\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Trucking Alliance staff will be conducting a review of the new FMCSA hours of service regime in the coming days and providing a comparison document with the Canadian Hours of Service to be available to the CTA membership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published a final rule updating its Hours of Service Regulations.
