He directly pleaded with businesses to \u201chave a heart\u201d and allow truck drivers to use washrooms and access to rest areas while on the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy friends, we\u2019re all in this together. You have to let the truckers, when they stop for (fuel), if they stop for food, let them use the washrooms. Clean your washrooms, let them use your washrooms,\u201d Ford said to media. \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for the truck drivers, you wouldn\u2019t even be open \u2026 So have a heart, you know, open up the washrooms for these truckers,\u201d Ford said. \u201cIt\u2019s not right, it\u2019s not fair. They\u2019re doing their job. It is absolutely essential to work with the truckers \u2026 let the truckers have a break.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Watch Ford\u2019s full comments in defense of truckers:<\/p>\n<p>[youtubeVideo id=\u00a0\u00bbIuJvdz_Jph4&Prime; width=\u00a0\u00bb300&Prime; height=\u00a0\u00bb350&Prime; responsive=\u00a0\u00bb1&Prime; \/]<\/p>\n<p>OTA also applauds the Ford government and many members of his cabinet for their vocal support of truck drivers, including <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/C_Mulroney\/status\/1244649919790669824\/photo\/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1244649919790669824&amp;ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fcantruck.ca%2Fthank-a-trucker%2F\">Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Monte McNaughton, Ontario\u2019s Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sabrinananji\/status\/1245050569364049921\">had sharp words<\/a> on Twitter for those who refuse to allow drivers to rest on their property, ban them from washrooms or fail to provide alternate accommodations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is a disgrace. Drivers get goods to market. Let&#39;s show them some respect. <\/p>\n<p>And businesses: ensure your washroom facilities are properly cleaned. And, we have some businesses out there that are hanging signs up saying essentially drop off your load, but you can\u2019t use the restroom,\u201d McNaughton said.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion of truck driver treatment has been spreading across the Canada and even reached the attention of the Prime Minister Trudeau, who yesterday <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JustinTrudeau\/status\/1245139169934016517\">tweeted his appreciation<\/a> and tipped his hat to CTA\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/thank-a-trucker\/\">#ThankATrucker<\/a> social media campaign.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">While many of us are working from home, there are others who aren\u2019t able to do that &#8211; like the truck drivers who are working day and night to make sure our shelves are stocked.
