{"id":2685,"date":"2019-08-26T17:15:11","date_gmt":"2019-08-26T17:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/proposed-new-national-standard-for-tdg-training-assessment-and-competency-open-for-60-day-comment-period\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:46:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:46:54","slug":"proposed-new-national-standard-for-tdg-training-assessment-and-competency-open-for-60-day-comment-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/proposed-new-national-standard-for-tdg-training-assessment-and-competency-open-for-60-day-comment-period\/","title":{"rendered":"Proposed New National Standard for TDG Training, Assessment and Competency (Open for 60-Day Comment Period)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian General Standard Board (CGSB) has released the first draft of the new National Standard of Canada CAN\/CGSB-192.3 entitled \u201cTransportation of Dangerous Goods Training, Assessment and Competency\u201d.\u00a0Comments are due by October 24, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Once the Standard is finalized and published, Transport Canada will propose an amendment to Part 6 of the\u00a0<em>Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations<\/em>, which will allow the Standard to be incorporated by reference. The proposal by Transport Canada will need to go through both the Gazette I &amp; II processes before the standard comes into effect.\u00a0It is expected that the Gazette I process (proposed change to regulations) could be presented by Transport Canada as early as Q2 \u2013 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed Standard outlines training, assessment, and competency requirements for persons who handle, offer for transport or transport dangerous goods by road, rail, marine, and air in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Competency describes the capability of\u00a0performing tasks pertaining to the transportation of dangerous goods (TDG), which\u00a0is developed\u00a0through the acquisition of knowledge, skill, and ability.\u00a0This Standard is widely applicable as it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifies and describes function-specific tasks across all modes of transport; and<\/li>\n<li>Provides a benchmark to employers in terms of training and determining competencies that suit their operations and workforce requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CTA will be working with its TDG Committee to review the proposed standard and provide feedback to CGSB and Transport Canada before the October 24<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0deadline.
