{"id":2469,"date":"2018-08-10T15:22:42","date_gmt":"2018-08-10T15:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/autonomous-driving-will-create-not-displace-trucking-jobs-study\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:48:02","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:48:02","slug":"autonomous-driving-will-create-not-displace-trucking-jobs-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/autonomous-driving-will-create-not-displace-trucking-jobs-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Autonomous Driving will Create, Not Displace Trucking Jobs: Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">A new study from the American Centre for Mobility hits the brakes on the notion autonomous trucks will widely displace jobs across North America. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The study, commissioned by ACM and led by Michigan State University and the Texas A&amp;M Transportation Institute, concludes that automated technology will \u00ab\u00a0largely support truck drivers instead of replacing them\u00a0\u00bb for at least the next decade, reports Crain Automotive News. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Shelia Cotton, the MSU professor who led the research, said in a press release that while automated vehicle technology won&rsquo;t eliminate jobs, it will shift workforce demands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00ab\u00a0&#8230; this level of advanced technology has the potential to lead to the creation of thousands of new jobs in the engineering, data analysis, cybersecurity and vehicle &lsquo;monitoring&rsquo; areas,\u00a0\u00bb Cotten said in the press release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The report points to the need for more education and training to facilitate the rapid changes in the trucking industry, according to Christopher Poe, assistant director for Connected and Automated Transportation Strategy with the Texas A&amp;M Transportation Institute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00ab\u00a0In the near-term there is great potential for these technologies to assist commercial drivers in safely operating trucks.
