{"id":2438,"date":"2018-06-13T19:34:21","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T19:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/vehicle-makers-impacted-by-tariffs-ctea\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T14:10:01","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T14:10:01","slug":"vehicle-makers-impacted-by-tariffs-ctea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/vehicle-makers-impacted-by-tariffs-ctea\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicle Makers Impacted by Tariffs: CTEA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canadian commercial vehicle manufacturers are concerned over the \u201csignificant negative impact\u201d caused by surtaxes on steel and aluminum, reports <em>Truck News: <\/em><\/p>\n<p>In a Canadian Manufacturing Coalition briefing with representatives of Global Affairs Canada, Don Moore, director of government and industry relations with the Canadian Transportation Equipment Association (CTEA), said trailer and vocational truck manufacturers would be hit particularly hard.<\/p>\n<p>The smaller businesses in the sector wouldn\u2019t be able to sustain themselves in a protracted trade war that focused on these materials, he said during the call.<\/p>\n<p>Other association members noted that many steel and aluminum products \u2013 particularly specialty items used in the vehicle manufacturing \u2013 are currently sourced exclusively in the U.S., and no Canadian options are available. The government representatives were asked to help the industry develop other sources for the goods.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Global Affairs spokespeople reportedly told those on the call that the government plans to \u201chold fast\u201d on the U.S. tariffs that are seen as \u201cillegal sanctions\u201d.<br \/>\nThe 25% tariff on Canadian steel and 10% applied to aluminum was applied by the
