The agency proposed that a crash challenged through an RDR would be found \u201cnot preventable\u201d when documentation submitted with the RDR established that the crash was, indeed, not preventable.<\/p>\n<p>In its July 27, 2017 <em>Federal Register<\/em> notice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2017\/07\/27\/2017-15833\/crash-preventability-demonstration-program\">announcing it would accept the RDRs<\/a>, FMCSA said it would accept RDRs \u201cto evaluate the preventability of certain categories of crashes\u201d through its DataQs national data-correction system. More specifically, the agency proposed that a crash challenged through an RDR would be found \u201cnot preventable\u201d when documentation submitted with the RDR established that the crash was, indeed, not preventable.<\/p>\n<p>Now, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/FR-2018-02-07\/pdf\/2018-02437.pdf\">a notice published in the <em>Federal Register<\/em><\/a> for Feb. 7, the agency stated that over 2,500 RDRs have been submitted and that, \u201cbased on the experiences operating the program for the first few months,\u201d the agency has identified areas of the program \u201crequiring more instruction and details\u201d including how to correctly submitting eligible crashes to the demonstration program; which specific types of crashes will be reviewed using the RDR process, and the importance of submitting all relevant evidence \u201cin support of the preventability determination\u201d being sought.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/FR-2018-02-07\/pdf\/2018-02437.pdf\">all the details<\/a> clarifying how to submit RDRs given within the latest <em>Federal Register <\/em>notice, the agency noted that additional information on how to submit a crash preventability RDR is available on the FMCSA website for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/safety\/crashpreventability-demonstration-program\">the crash-preventability demo program.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has clarified how carriers may\u00a0go about requesting a data review of certain non-preventable crashes.
