The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) was notified by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) the truck turnaround option for major ACI AMPS penalties, will be extended until December 31, 2018 in the highway mode.<\/p>\n

This will be the second extension of the truck turnaround, which was first put in place June of this year. The turnaround option allows carriers to avoid costly monetary penalties for failure to submit ACI data by allowing a truck driver to return to the U.S. and submit their paperwork before entering Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cCTA feels this is a great story of industry and government working together to implement practical changes that work,\u201d says CTA\u2019s director of policy and industry awareness programs, Lak Shoan. \u201cCTA would like to thank CBSA for their ongoing commitment to work with our sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

The joint CBSA\/CTA AMPS committee has been working on implementing several different options that would help alleviate carriers\u2019 concerns regarding costly monetary penalties, including the introduction of volumetrics, and additional benefits for trusted trader members.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the agency moving toward using more data, analytics and technology to improve the movement of goods and compliance, the use of volumetrics seems like a logical next step,\u201d says Shoan.<\/p>\n
