{"id":2217,"date":"2017-07-14T14:07:59","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T14:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/transport-canadas-international-harmonization-update-for-dangerous-goods-regulations\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:49:05","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:49:05","slug":"transport-canadas-international-harmonization-update-for-dangerous-goods-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/transport-canadas-international-harmonization-update-for-dangerous-goods-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Transport Canada\u2019s International Harmonization Update for Dangerous Goods Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em>Regulations Amending the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (International Harmonization Update, 2016) <\/em>were published in Part II of the <em>Canada Gazette<\/em> July 12, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the amendment is to more closely align Transport Canada\u2019s Regulations with those in the United States as well as the United Nations Standards.<\/p>\n<p>Compliance with the updated regulations is required six months from the day they were published in the Canada Gazette. During the six-month transition, compliance with both the old and new regulations is permitted.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights, among others, that may be of interest to carriers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New safety marks Class 9, Lithium Batteries to harmonize with the UN standards;<\/li>\n<li>New Canadian labeling requirements for dangerous goods that are toxic by inhalation to align them more closely with the requirements in the U.S. 49 CFR. Instead of the words \u201ctoxic by inhalation\u201d or \u201ctoxic \u2014 inhalation hazard\u201d, the regulations now require the words \u201cinhalation hazard\u201d to be displayed on the means of containment as is required in the United States.
