Trucking HR Canada\u2019s first ever Driver Connect & Share event will include a panel discussion that sheds more light on the topic of mentorship, directly from driver mentors and mentees.<\/p>\n
The event will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 9:00am to 1:00pm, at the Sandman Signature Hotel Toronto Airport.<\/p>\n
Moderated by Stan Campbell, host of Trucker Radio, the event opens with Joanne Millen-Mackenzie, of Highland Transport, and the reigning Highway Star of the Year, sharing her perspectives, knowledge and learnings from close to 25 years behind the wheel.\u00a0New panelists include:<\/p>\n
Bill Dejong<\/strong>, a driver and mentor, at J.G Drapeau Ltd.\u00a0 He Began his driving career at 21 when he purchased his first straight truck. After obtaining his A license, he started to haul Tankers across Canada, followed by servicing clients with flatbed work. Bill is currently a doing city and shout haul runs for 10 \u201chappy years\u201d at the same company.<\/p>\n Lorraine Lewis<\/strong>, a recent graduate, driver, and mentee at J.G. Drapeau Ltd. For as long as she could remember, her dream has always been to become a transport driver.\u00a0 She is proof that jobs that are traditionally considered a \u201cman’s job\u201d are no longer that. Reaching her goal, she now has \u201cthe best job in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n Michele Joslin<\/strong>, a commercial driver trainer from Humber College, for over 10 years. This former long haul driver turned Fleet Driver Trainer lists her hobbies as trucks, trucks and other stuff you drive. Her certifications include: Teacher\/Trainer of Adults, defensive driving techniques and Toastmasters Competent Communicator. She is very proud to admit that she has been driving trucks for almost 30 years and still loves it.<\/p>\n David Henry<\/strong>, a heavy haul company driver and mentor from LCG Equipment. With over 30 years\u2019 experience in the trucking industry, encompassing all aspects from a company driver, dispatcher and owner operator to company owner, David\u2019s passion is mentoring others to excel as professionals, thereby providing the public with a positive view of the trucking industry.<\/p>\n Shelley Uvanile-Hesch<\/strong>, a commercial driver and mentor from Sharp Transportation Systems Inc. \u00a0She has been driving a rig for 17 years and recently\u00a0set up the Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada to support and promote women in the trucking industry.<\/p>\n \u201cThis panel is a direct response to feedback we continue to receive that drivers want something specific to their day-to-day concerns,\u201d says Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada. \u201cDelegates wanted to learn more from drivers; we are delivering on content attendees want to see.\u201d<\/p>\n
