{"id":1817,"date":"2015-09-25T15:05:41","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T15:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/epa-could-alter-roadmap-of-ghg-phase-2-rules\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:51:30","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:51:30","slug":"epa-could-alter-roadmap-of-ghg-phase-2-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/epa-could-alter-roadmap-of-ghg-phase-2-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"EPA Could Alter \u2018Roadmap\u2019 of GHG Phase 2 Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The EPA could reportedly make some changes to its \u201croadmap\u201d for the <a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/epa-nhtsa-unveil-proposal-for-phase-2-of-ghg-truck-rule\/\">upcoming Phase 2 trucking GHG rules<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At a Technology &amp; Maintenance Council\u2019s fall meeting this week, EPA, truck and trailer manufacturers and fleet owners participated in a session to discuss the \u201cimplementation roadmap\u201d of the final rule, according to <em>Heavy Duty Trucking<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Spears, executive director of EPA\u2019s Heavy Duty Diesel Program, confirmed the rules will require advanced aerodynamics and combustion technology, and more use of low-rolling-resistance tires and tire-inflation devices.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There were some key takeaways from the session, including indications that:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The California Air Resources Board might again go its own way and make the rules stricter;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>There\u2019s a \u201cmismatch\u201d between model years of trucks and engines, which must be resolved;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rules are focused on regulating manufacturers, but emissions will be tested by state and local authorities when equipment is in the hands of owners; and<\/p>\n<p>In response to a reporter\u2019s question about the model-year mismatch \u2013 meaning trucks enter model years many months before engines, perhaps leading to enforcement confusion \u2013 Spears said EPA is looking at \u201cseveral approaches\u201d to resolve it.<\/p>\n<p>Spears also answered another question concerning glide kits. He said the agency doesn&rsquo;t want to ban them, but wants high-mileage, glider-kitted road tractors to use diesels meeting current emissions limits.<\/p>\n<p>Canada is expected to establish its own GHG emission rules. CTA, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/editorial-simply-duplicating-us-truck-ghg-standards-wont-work-for-canadian-fleets\/\">CTA has made it clear<\/a> that \u00a0regulators need to ensure that equipment imported into Canada is tested and proven to operate in specific Canadian marketplaces and unique operating conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The comment period for the Phase 2 proposals ends Oct. 1, and Spears said the final rulemaking would be announced the second quarter of next year.<\/p>\n<p><b>Click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truckinginfo.com\/news\/story\/2015\/09\/epa-might-alter-implementation-roadmap-for-ghg-phase-2-rules.aspx\">here for full story<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The EPA could reportedly make some changes to its \u201croadmap\u201d for the upcoming Phase 2 trucking GHG rules.
