{"id":1734,"date":"2015-04-28T19:53:58","date_gmt":"2015-04-28T19:53:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/women-with-drive-returning-in-16\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:51:47","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:51:47","slug":"women-with-drive-returning-in-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/women-with-drive-returning-in-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Women With Drive Returning in \u201816"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.truckinghr.com\" target=\"_blank\">Trucking HR Canada\u2019s Women with Drive Leadership Summit<\/a> will be back in Toronto on March 3, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>About 135 delegates attended this year\u2019s inaugural event, which shed new light on the steps to recruit, retain and mentor women in Canada\u2019s trucking industry, according to organizers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received, it\u2019s clear that those who attended the summit want even more information to help address some of the industry\u2019s most pressing recruiting and retention challenges,\u201d said Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The summit is part of Trucking HR Canada\u2019s three-year action plan to help tackle the shortage of women in the trucking industry. Other commitments involve creating mentorship programs, identifying best practices, and developing workplace tools and procedures for inclusive workplaces.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers during this year\u2019s summit included Brenda Andress, commissioner of the Canadian Women\u2019s Hockey League, and Dr. Kellie Leitch, minister of labour and minister of status of women. The lineup for next year\u2019s event has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference Board of Canada, a non-profit research organization, projects the need for another 25,000 to 33,000 for-hire truck drivers as early as 2020. While women represent 48% of Canada\u2019s available labour pool, they currently account for just 3% of the nation\u2019s truck drivers, mechanics, technicians and cargo workers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trucking HR Canada\u2019s Women with Drive Leadership Summit will be back in Toronto on March 3, 2016.
