{"id":1688,"date":"2015-02-05T21:54:14","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T21:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/tca-boss-creativity-key-to-attracting-nextgen-drivers\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:52:01","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:52:01","slug":"tca-boss-creativity-key-to-attracting-nextgen-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/fr\/tca-boss-creativity-key-to-attracting-nextgen-drivers\/","title":{"rendered":"TCA Boss: Creativity Key to Attracting NextGen Drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pm-widget\">\n<article class=\"post-4340 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-business category-labourhrdriver-shortage tag-capacity tag-detention-time tag-driver-lifestyle tag-driver-pay tag-driver-recruitment tag-retention tag-shippers tag-truckload pm-single-post-article\">\n<div class=\"pm-single-post\">\n<div class=\"pm-single-post\">\n<div class=\"pm-single-post-content\">\n<p>The onus is on the trucking industry to find its next generation of truck drivers, says current TCA Chairman Shephard Dunn of Indiana-based Bestway Express, adding that carriers who are most responsive to change are the ones who will continue to grow in an ever-changing marketplace.<\/p>\n<p>Welcoming attendees of the 2014 recruitment and retention conference put on by Conversion Interactive Agency in partnership with the Truckload Carriers Association, Dunn stressed that creative strategies are key to attracting new drivers to the industry, adding that \u201cthe strategy right now is that nobody\u2019s dealing with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <em>Fleet Owner<\/em> magazine, Dunn said that driver pay has a role, but it isn\u2019t the only solution to winning the recruitment and retention game. He pointed to \u201cplenty of carriers\u201d who pay about the industry standard who are also having the same problems attracting drivers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no silver bullets, and no easy answers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event, focused on the \u201cNew School\u201d in recruiting and retention, offered carriers tips on accommodating new generation drivers\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u201cWork more with customers on length of haul\u201d to better fit driver\u2019s home needs.<\/li>\n<li>Work with sales reps to identify more \u201cdriver-friendly freight,\u201d from the aforementioned haul lengths to shippers and receivers where detention is not an issue.<\/li>\n<li>Any driver quality-of-life improvements \u201cwill pay dividends\u201d through recruiting and retention efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The onus is on the trucking
