The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) has been asked to forward the following information from the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to its members.
The agency stated:
“Please be advised that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has enacted its new Hours of Service (HOS) rule effective September 29, 2020.
FMCSA revised four provisions of the previous HOS rule to provide greater flexibility for drivers without adversely affecting safety.
Additionally, FMCSA has posted revised Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to address the revised four provisions of the HOS rule for cross-border drivers. FMCSA requests that you distribute this information to Canadian-domiciled motor carriers and trucking associations the that operate in United States. We thank you for your valuable support.”
CTA members are encouraged to review the information provided by FMCSA with special attention focused on the FAQs. In addition to the information provided by FMCSA, CTA staff have prepared a side-by-side comparison of the new US rules in relationship to existing Canadian regulations, which also highlights key points that drivers and carriers who operate across the border might be interested in when returning to Canada.
