CFIA wants to make the trucking industry a ware of a pressing pest issue.
The spotted lanternfly is rapidly spreading across several US states, including those that border Canada. Most recently there was a detection in Buffalo, NY and another in Michigan. It has not yet been confirmed in Canada but its arrival is anticipated.
Transportation corridors are a key pathway for movement of this pest as it is an excellent hitchhiker. CFIA says members in the Canadian Trucking Alliance are well positioned to assist with prevention and early detection of spotted lanternfly by being aware of this pest, looking for this pest on vehicles, equipment and conveyances and removing any detections prior to entering Canada.
If anyone thinks they have detected spotted lanternfly in Canada we would ask that they kill and remove the pest into a secure container and immediately contact their local CFIA office to report it.
